Drone Competition at the State Fairgrounds Hosted by SkillsUSA
This coming Monday, students from across the region will gather at the State Fairgrounds to compete in the SkillsUSA Drone Competition, an exciting event designed to showcase the next generation of drone pilots and aviation professionals. Competitors will demonstrate their skills through a series of challenges that test precision flying, navigation, safety procedures, technical knowledge, and problem-solving abilities.
The event is being coordinated and operated by I Fly Drones on behalf of SkillsUSA, providing professional competition management, flight operations, scoring, and technical support throughout the day. Through hands-on competition, students gain valuable experience in the rapidly growing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry while developing workforce-ready skills applicable to aviation, engineering, public safety, mapping, inspection, and emerging technology careers.
The SkillsUSA Drone Competition highlights the importance of STEM education and career and technical training, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world environment. Attendees can expect exciting flight demonstrations, competitive challenges, and a firsthand look at the future of drone technology and the talented students preparing to lead the industry.

Indoor Winter Fly-In
The 2025 winter Fly In was huge success. People of all ages joined the fun at TSI indoor baseball field for a day of learning, competition and fun with drones. The Indoor space was a welcome break to the cold outdoor temperatures.
Drone Scavenger Hunt
We created a scavenger photo contest where the contestants were tasked with capturing 40 specific locations in 2 hours. The Race was a hectic but rewarding day of food and fun.
Boat Parade of Lights
Great time capturing the Richmond Boat Parade from our launch point at The Lily Pad. While it was very scary to drone at night over the water the shots were worth the risk.
Hazy Mountian Fly In
Hazy Mountain Vineyards & Brewery invites us to come and capture the beauty of this mountaintop winery. The results are breathtaking but the opportunity to drone with friends from The Virginia Drone Pilots Group was unforgettable.
